Autistic Burnout For Therapists: Recognizing, Preventing, and Recovering

$30.00

Description

Therapists, do you want to learn how to recognize autistic burnout, prevent overwhelm through proactive supports, and guide recovery using neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed strategies?

This in-depth professional training on Autistic Burnout: Recognizing, Preventing and Recovery is designed for therapists, educators, and related professionals seeking neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed approaches to support Autistic people.

Autistic burnout is a recognized phenomenon where autistic individuals experience intense, long-term exhaustion and a loss of abilities due to chronic stress and unmet support needs. Unlike ordinary work burnout or depression, autistic burnout stems from a mismatch between life demands and an autistic person’s coping resources, in the absence of adequate accommodations.

This course is designed for therapists, educators, and allies who want to understand and address autistic burnout. This course will equip professionals to recognize the signs of autistic burnout, prevent its onset through proactive strategies, and support recovery for those impacted. All information is grounded in up-to-date, peer-reviewed research to ensure accuracy and trustworthiness.

Participants will

Deepen Understanding of Autistic Burnout
Expand professionals’ and community members’ understanding of autistic burnout as a research-defined phenomenon, including its core characteristics, developmental course, and distinction from depression, stress, or occupational burnout.

Integrate Neurodiversity-Affirming and Trauma-Informed Practices
Encourage a shift away from behavioral or compliance-focused interpretations by grounding
participants in evidence on autistic stress physiology, including allostatic overload, HPA-axis and autonomic dysregulation, and the neurobiological cost of masking. This
perspective supports trauma-informed practice by reframing burnout as a nervous system response to chronic overwhelm rather than a failure of coping or motivation.

Develop Prevention and Recovery Strategies
Equip participants with practical, research-backed approaches to reduce cumulative load, prevent burnout, and facilitate recovery. Participants will be prepared to implement flexible accommodations, support authentic self-expression, and collaborate with autistic individuals to build routines, boundaries, and environments that foster long-term well-being and resilience.

Dr. Panicha McGuire

Dr. Panicha McGuire, LMFT, RPT™, PsyD, is an AuDHDer and a dedicated advocate for neurodivergent-affirming, decolonial, and liberation-focused mental health practices. With over a decade of experience working with neurodivergent children, teens, and adults, Dr. Panicha’s approach is deeply rooted in intersectionality, honoring the lived experiences of the global majority, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and others marginalized by dominant systems. Dr. Panicha challenges the Eurocentric, medicalized models of psychology and psychiatry that have historically pathologized difference and reinforced systemic oppression. She believes in shifting from compliance-based approaches toward frameworks that foster self-determination, authenticity, and collective healing. She actively engages in communal learning, recognizing that knowledge is not just held by professionals, but also by lived experience and community wisdom. Dr. Panicha not only supports her clients in reclaiming their neurodivergent and cultural identities, but also equips fellow professionals with the tools to depathologize, decolonize, and integrate neurodiversity-affirming principles into their own practices. She believes that true healing is not about forcing individuals to conform, but about building communities where neurodivergent and marginalized individuals are valued, accommodated, and free to thrive.
